Now that I found myself playing quite regularly on the Tenhou server, I would really care to join one of these tourneys, whichever system is used. Every weekend we stop at the club for a five han chan session, with 100.000 starting points, in a Battle Royale fashion. Although, it actually reminded me more of the last episodes of Saki.

And a simple question here is, what’s the address for the mentioned IRC channel?

Sega’s MJ4 network arcade game uses that method except with best of 8 games for their national tournaments. But I guess that’s great for encouraging players to spend more cash. In fact, I was surprised when I plunked down in front of a machine for a 100 yen play and they brought over a free drink. Hmm, how about running a team tournament?

I never did see the point of having a tournament on-line…have tournaments in real life. For online play, you have the ranking system. A never-ending tournament that you can play at any time…

No matter what format you use, there’s still going to be that element of luck involved, and no matter what you do, there’s still going to be people raging, just because it’s the internet.

That said, I’m looking forward to seeing what new ideas come up.
