Janryumon Guide – How to play, general layout etc
May 27th, 2009 by OsamuIf you can't connect to the site you'll need a program called Proxycap (if there's a free alternative please do tell) and a SOCKS5 proxy.
Proxycap Setup:
Edit You also have to use IE.
Once installed add a proxy:
Replace localhost and the port with yours.
Then you need to add a rule:
Note that using the settings in the picture will make all programs use the proxy. Making a rule for iexplore.exe and JanRyuMon.exe should work if you don't want other programs using the proxy.
Lobby:
Left tile: Private game
Middle: ranked
right: CPU game, tutorial
Chat options:
Top: Room chat
Middle: Private
Bottom: Global (3 times a day?)
Ingame:
Z: Autowin
X: Tsumokiri
C: Autocall List
V: Autopass
B: Autosort
Right clicking tiles brings the autocall option as seen in the picture.

Nice guide thanks, i'm still searching for a japanese proxy (with no luck, they just can't tunnel me :P ) but at least no there is a little hope.

You don't need a Japanese proxy, in fact I use my server which is in France.

Im now trying it with VPN client so far i could register myself (basic jap knowledge ftw) but it's not working at the moment (as far as i know this isn't a maintenance day) But at least i got this far :P

well it's strange with VPN it drops me a random error when i click on the big red button, i also tried with proxys but half of them didn't even bothered working (in fact they failed to even open the site) and the other half of them didn't even work, so it seems i'm pretty much fucked. I'll try again this proxy hunting and rage clicking tomorrow :P

also, you cant start the game from its folder or w/e, those fags @ plaync made it so you can only start it pressing the big red button

tried it in IE Firefox, chrome etc etc, i think my active X went apeshit, also plaync can shove that big red button up there asses :P I'll report back when make any progression...

I'm guessing you've got a setting in IE that's blocking activeX? As long as you can access the site you should be able to open the playNC launcher even if you turn off your proxy while on the site.

just use PacketiX VPN client with the config named secure, it's on some forum i came across googling so just search it, and then the site loads you can register etc etc

This works for me and a friend without vpn or something. Different IP's though. As far as I´ve experianced, there is nothing you "need" to pay for. But you probably knew that already D: . Just remember that you can refill your points if it asks for that when you want to play. Forced to use IE though.

after logging in to the plaync.jp site... mouse over the shop tab (2nd from left in top orange bar), click JanRyuMon (first from right in grey dropdown). Once there, click the third tab on the banner (one next to the one with a watch. this tab has a mahjong tile with a +).

once there, so long as you have 4999 points or less, click the orange button to refill 7000 points.
Alternately in game when you have 4999 points or less and try to join a game, it should provide a pop-up window with two options, iirc clicking the left one brings you to the page.

I don't know if it is the game itself or PacketiX but for the last week or so I have been getting an error after trying to start the game from the site. Anyone else happen to have this problem?

I couldn't even access plaync.jp from here, I start timing out somewhere around 20 hops on tracert. Had to use TOR to access the site. Went through all sorts of godawful problems with the ActiveX, finally got signed up...then the storm knocked out my internet...which I assumed was actually caused by TOR and so undid most of the progress I had made before I realized the phone was dead too. xD
Got it all set back up this morning, had more godawful problems with ActiveX, managed to get the launcher to run and download the client and patch it. Then....it didn't work. Wasn't connecting.
After a lot of trial and error with ProxyCap, I managed to get the client's traffic entirely routed through TOR, and it started working...
...very slowly. Versus CPU works fine though.
Damn this game is great! Better than most standalone games...now, if only getting it to work didn't feel like rubbing broken glass into my scalp. ;o
If this is NCSoft trying to keep bakagaijin away from Japan-only games, they need to learn what 'globalization' means. They really should make it easier for people who can handle it to actually play out-of-region games. Hell, I'd pay to play this, moonspeak or not. (Though that isn't a terribly big concern for me)

I have the same problem e.k. has. I was using Packetix VPN client, and it was working fine, but after changing my router, I get the same problem. I emailed Jason but he didnt reply. Any help?

First error states: "We're sorry. Please try again later." ... ... has it started behaving yet? Maybe they were down for maintenance or something?
Second error states: "The Janryumon client cannot be run on its own"
-So does the exe have a launcher of some sort <.<;?
This is the best i can give you since I don't use janryumon myself :/.

Gorgils, the error in the images you showed previously are due to PacketiX. PacketiX can load the site, just not start the game. Wish I knew why. Another VPN will work tho.

Oh another thing I forgot, the program put ads in installer and makes an intrusive webbrowsing with sometimes redirections or autoopen webpages. Also puts a banner ad in top of webpages who are you visiting. Also Packetix is needed to register an account, so install it for creating an account and unistall after it. Well I think it worth, is just for you think about that! At least you could play.

I don't know why but it's hard to intall the ActiveX.It taked me quite long to do it. This with a fresh install of Windows 7. Maybe it's a trick who I just passed up while I installed, but for sure theres anything who we miss so it make quite hard to start the install. The only thing I could say is try, try and try. Also If you have Windows XP or Vista with more than a year... It could be probably the pain in the ass called Internet Explorer. Greetings!

Hi ! I'd like to thank all of you for giving tips about all these problems ! It really helped me. After a whole day I finally succeeded to play JanRyuMon (and it's awesome). So I use Hotspot Shield to play, and I don't care about the ads since it's actually "the only way to play" ;) You don't play Mahjong with Internet Explorer after all. But when I registered, I was using PocketiX.
I play on Windows 7, that I installed today on my MacBook Pro. I'm using Internet Explorer 8, and I had no ActiveX problems, I couldn't believe it ! You just have to be patient on the website, when it asks you to install something it can be long to react to your click.
The only stressing part was downloading the game and the patch, because it was veeery long (probably due to the Hotspotshield vpn), and it sometimes crashed while updating. So in this case, what you must do is deleting the file from your computer, with its directory (up to the patch folder in the case of the patch, the Play NC folder in the other case).
So it took me something like an hour to complete the update/patching.
Now that I can play, I'd like to know if there is somewhere on the net a tutorial that explain the japanese menus ? I found nothing else on google. I manage to understand the Katakana words in the game, but there are so many setting options, it's a bit confusing :)
Anyway, thanks for the translations in this article, it's very useful.

Well IE8 over Windows 7 is better than the older widows (finally!) Menues... well I just learn a minimun use with trian-error mode so in that I couldn't help. Hope anyone with more knowledge of Japanese could help. Greetings!

I get that same activeX error after downloading the playncloginmodule thing and I thought I finally get to play it after packetix stopped working some months ago T_T I know others here had some trouble with the activeX too but managed to get it working, question is..how?

I can get it to run perfectly on my own computer and a few others, but there are some computers where it just won't run. Active X for t3h lose, it seems.

Maybe make sure all your friends are in the same lobby before giving them the room's code?
Janryuu sents you to a lobby at random at the time you log in. That's why you see the Japanese guys going "1234 @2"
Enter the lobby/server number 2, and type in the code 1234.
(I actually thought it sent you to the proper server automatically, but oh well)
