A newbie mahjong player is likely to discard ura suji or matagi suji earlier than seki suji - I'm saying this because I've seen it - just to make their hand look simpler and categorize tiles into mentsu easily. So if you overthink these when playing against inexperienced players, you're likely to get hurt. Very helpful indeed.
